These sterile dressings are used to keep the maggots on the wound, when the wound is not on a flat surface and can not easily be covered by a sheet of fabric without wrinkles. Using adhesive glue and tape, the nylon stocking material can be affixed to strips of hydrocolloid or other foundation material laid out on the skin around the wound, thereby forming a maggot cage about the wound.
